The term preference should only be set when a class is taken twice during the year. Model UN is a class that may be taken more than once so a student taking it both in the Fall and Spring needs two course requests for Model UN with one needing the term set to Fall and the other needing the term set to Spring. Other examples where two course requests would be needed would be year long Performance Theater, Jazz ensemble, and Vocal Ensemble.
The term setting for other courses will be referenced from the paper forms later in the scheduling process. Delaying the entry of the term reduces the time required to create the master schedule and minimizes the number of students who do not get their preference for semester classes offered both semesters.
The level setting of Honors is used to place an "H" at the end of the class name on report cards and transcripts. Classes comprised of only honors students already have an "H" appended to their name when appropriate. Setting level to honors doubles the letter so it would read, "Calculus H H" if the level is set to honors. The level also serves to flag students in mixed classes so the appropriate alternate grade scale can be assigned in a bulk action rather than one at a time. It is the assignment of the honors grade scale that provides the differential for GPA points.
The "Approved" checkbox is used as an indicator that the student is enrolled at Trinity for the next school year and the request needs to be scheduled. We want the data entry for students that may enroll later, but we don't want to setup our schedule based on these requests since they missed the priority enrollment deadline and may not be here. This is how the approval checkbox is utilized—it is approval to include the request in scheduling rather than approval to take the class.
ASL classes are scheduled outside of the Veracross system based on the individual needs of the particular student. Therefore, they do not need to be entered as course requests.
Theses are not entered as requests because they are handled on an individual basis and do not affect the schedules of other students or the schedules of teachers.
